Construction crews on Monday found a World War II-era bomb in an Aurora neighborhood built on the site of a former weapons training site.
The Arapahoe County Bomb Squad responded to the 4600 block of S. Robertsdale Way on Monday. a construction company found a military ordinancethe Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on X.
The area is part of the former Lowry bombardment and artillery belle, a 160-square-kilometer military training area used for weapons and bombing training from 1938 to 1963.
The area where the bomb was found is just south of the Aurora Reservoir.
Bomb technicians x-rayed the device, a Mark 23 Mod 1 training round, and found it to be inert. It was turned over to military officials at Buckley Space Force Base, according to the sheriff’s office.
