UnitedHealth Group, the largest health care company in the US, has clear ambitions to grow up.
The vast conglomerate – which owns an important health insurance company, doctor – practices, a pharmacy advantage manager and numerous other companies – took over or established more than 250 subsidiaries in 2024. Almost all those deals were not publicly announced because the transactions are small compared to the size of UnitedHealth. And just like in 2023, UnitedHealth has given priority to outpatient surgical centers.
UnitedHealth acquired full or partial ownership interests in more than 100 surgical centers in 2024, according to a stat -evaluation of the newest annual financial documents from UnitedHealth. Many of those outpatient centers are aimed at very profitable services, such as Heart Cath Labs, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology and gastroenterology. More than a dozen are part of a joint venture With Texas Health Resources, a non-profit hospital system in the Dallas-Fort Worth area that generated $ 6 billion in income last year.
