Donald Trump Jr. came to his father’s defense as he explained why the former president is afraid to debate Vice President Kamala Harris again.
Following Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate between Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D), CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Trump Jr. asked about another possible debate between his father and Harris.
“I don’t think he has a chance at a fair debate,” Trump Jr. said. “I don’t think there are any moderators who would do that. I think there are probably Fox moderators who are so concerned about even — they’re trying to appease the left that they might even lean that way.”
Donald Trump and Harris had their first debate in September, after Trump initially suggested he might withdraw. He later blamed ABC moderators for controlling him during the debate when he falsely claimed that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating pets. Trump whined that the debate was like this “three against one.”
Since then, he has done a series of head gymnastics to give reasons why he won’t debate Harris again, including saying he doesn’t want to win a second time.
“Lyin’ Kamala just requested a new debate because they lost so badly tonight – again, it’s like the fighter who lost stands up and says ‘I WANT A REMATCH,’” Trump posted on Truth Social after Tuesday night’s vice president. presidential debate.
“I beat Biden, I went on to beat her, and I don’t plan on doing it again, too far down the line,” the post continued. “Votes have already been cast – and I am BIG in the polls. I will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, she is not capable of that!”
When pressed by Collins about why his father doesn’t want to have another debate, Trump Jr. said this is not a good “environment” for his father.
“Well, he offered to do the Fox debate, just so we’re clear,” he said. “My dad said weeks ago, ‘I’ll have a Fox debate too.’ Kamala Harris turned that down because she can only go in alone – like she can only do an interview with a sidekick like Tim Walz by her side – she can only do it if she knows she will have the upper hand. So I don’t think you can do that in this environment.”

Trump Jr.’s comments came the same night CBS News announced on “60 Minutes” that the former president had withdrawn from a planned interview.
“After initially accepting 60 Minutes’ request for an interview with Scott Pelley, former President Trump’s campaign has decided not to participate,” a statement from the program said. “Pelley will address this Monday evening.”
Harris, who has agreed to also participate in the “60 Minutes” interview accepted an invitation from CNN to debate Trump on October 23. But he has given the excuse that a debate now would be “too late” in the campaign because “voting has already started.”
