The NWSL -Regular season 2025 is rolling on and my power rankings are back. We are officially three weeks after the season and the competition takes a short break for the international window, so the assessments will appear this week until NWSL will return.
There are already some changes from my week two rankings Because the biggest question of the season may have an early answer. Who will match this year in Orlando for a top spot? The early signs are trending in the direction of the stream of Kansas City.
I did not expect that there would be a lot of shift in the top four of my rankings so early, but it is nice to see that even the elite quadrons of the competition make things interesting. Washington Spirit remains of top class, but Orlando and Kansas City will make things difficult to jump, and things can really start to shift for Gotham after losing Tierna Davidson from a knee injury that also removed her from the USWNT -UPRIL roster.
The center of the peloton is steadfast with clubs that still establish their ideal starters and iron tactics, while the bottom half of the ranking has some new additions with some familiar faces.
There is a nice little break for teams to try to reset themselves for the long term. Don’t miss an action, because fans can select NWSL Regular season races CBS” CBS Sports Network” Paramount+and CBS Sports Golazo Network.
Now, time for our week three rankings:
2025 NWSL Power Rankings
1. |
Kansas City Current |
+1 |
I’ve seen enough. The power goes into games and dominates in every phase. They crush it against Play -off contenders and reminders of allegations that there is work to do if they want to reach the level that Kansas City has set up for the competition. |
2. |
Orlando Proud |
-1 |
No goals for Barbra Banda in two weeks and your defensive midfielder as a score threat is just a silver lining when your MVP candidate is also on the score sheet. Still as elite as always, and will remain a competition juggeraut even after his ranking. |
3. |
Washington Spirit |
– |
Trinity Rodman is back in limited minutes and Ashley Hatch is in top form, but it is the backline that are the superstars in DC this week. Much good chemistry brewing between Rebecal Bernal, Tara Mckeown, Esme Morgan and Casey Kroegerer. |
4. |
NJ/NY Gotham FC |
–– |
Grittyness only keeps this team in the top four rankings for so long. Must use the break to manage some more injury problems if they want to win a victory at any time in the early part of the season. |
5. |
Houston Dash |
+1 |
The dashboard has made it difficult for play -off contenders this season and continues to rise in the ranking, which presents a new question for them. Are they a dark horse or sleeping giant? |
6. |
Seattle Reign FC |
-1 |
Struggled to generate meaningful possession or to create opportunities in the Run of Play. With persistent injuries to important veterans, I want to see that the coaching staff trust their fast bank players more. |
7. |
North Carolina courage |
-1 |
A game there for the taking and they just couldn’t. Courage continues to have problems finding that final victory despite their efforts, and perhaps a while away from the national team for Jaedyn Shaw will help start things. |
8. |
Angel City FC |
+3 |
Welcome to the upper half of the Angel City ranking. Huge efforts of Alyssa and Gisele Thompson, Savy King, Kennedy Fuller and Riley Tiernan helped them here, so here is hope that interim manager Sam Laity will continue to play the “children”. |
9. |
San Diego Wave FC |
+1 |
Take the game to Orlando, and despite a loss you see the coherent coherence between new acquisitions and club veterans. Midfield is Bind and the Golf can finally have found the answers in Kenza Dali and Gia Corely. |
10. |
Utah Royals |
-2 |
Utah is increasingly looking like a team that benefited from a coaching -hump in the middle of the season than a really dark horse last year. They need a quick reset and the break comes at a good time for coaching staff to make adjustments as quickly as possible. |
11. |
Bay FC |
-2 |
Can’t take advantage of the opportunities they have generated and to make a statement against a top-four club. There are ideas, but implementation is not, and in the end rising teams will benefit if no adjustments are made. |
12. |
Racing Louisville FC |
– |
There is nothing to make use of the opportunity for you and Lousiville did that exactly this week. Against the worst team in the competition. Must see more to climb the ranking. |
13. |
Portland Thorns FC |
– |
A huge achievement by goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold to get a result. A penalty stop to keep things in reach, and doubtful Scottish selection, by keeping thorns on the hunt for any form of momentum shift. |
14. |
Chicago Stars FC |
– |
Sometimes when you come across another struggling team, there might be a chance to change the pace, but not if you are apparently the stars. Cloudy with a chance in the last place in the ranking. |
